Cut a run of dados for shelf standards and every one came out straight. Freehand I always wander a little at the start of the cut; the guide rails just do not let you. Worth taking the version with the bit included.
week agoMounting plate lined up with my trim router first go. The multi-hole pattern means you are not drilling anything or shimming it to fit, which is what I expected to be fiddling with.
weeks agoAnodised aluminium, not painted zinc. Six weeks in a garage shop and there is no play developing at the rail knobs, which is usually the first thing to go on a jig like this.
weeks agoThe depth control is the part I did not expect to care about. Set it once, cut eight slots at the same depth, no creeping deeper as you go. That consistency is what makes the joints close up properly.
weeks agoSmall enough to live in the tool bag and stiff enough that it does not flex when you lean into the cut. I was expecting to have to clamp it to the bench, but it holds where you put it.
weeks agoThree-edge bit that comes with it cuts cleaner than the two-flute I had been using. Less fuzz along the edge of the slot in plywood, which saves sanding inside a groove you can barely reach.
weeks agoSlotted the back panels for a run of cabinets. Same setup every time, all the grooves matched, panels dropped in without any easing. That is exactly what I bought it for.
weeks agoCuts accurately and the build is solid. My only note is there is no dust extraction on it, so chips pile up right where you are trying to watch the cut and you end up stopping to clear them. Shop vac nozzle taped nearby sorted it, but it should not be a workaround.
weeks agoRouter is not included and the listing says so plainly. Mine mounted with no trouble, but check your base against the hole pattern before ordering rather than after.
weeks agoThe bracket itself is fine but the guide rails are the weak point. Extended out near their full reach there is a little deflection, and on a long slot in hardwood I could see it in the cut. Kept the rails short after that and it was accurate again, which limits what it will do on wide stock.
weeks agoComes apart in about thirty seconds and lies flat, so it travels without eating half the bag. I take it to jobs now instead of trying to freehand slots on site.
weeks agoNo complaint about the bracket, it works as described and the bit is sharp. Delivery was the problem: just over three weeks to arrive and the box came in dented along one side. Everything inside was fine, so this is about the wait and the packaging rather than the tool.
